Lost art of blogging

The idea of being a blogger is about having a passion so much for the topic that it literally shows in the writing and if it is good ,true and from the heart the even the most unlikely reader will show interest.

It seems like being a blogger has become an art form that has lost its way so to speak. Replaced with an ego driven outlet sacrificing the writing to obtain as many views as possible.

A blog traditionally  is a writer having such a love for, knowledge of, or strong view about or educated opposing arguments against a subject or a topic.

When that is the case, it really shines through in the work. This can make it easy to get into the person's blog and become a loyal reader.

Some can write so good in this form that they are able to attract a reader that may not even care about the topic being blogged about.

Social media has put so much stock in how many likes,views,retweets,mentions and friends you have.

Those with high numbers in these categories get this false sense of celebrity. When this is the case it also shows in the work of the writer.

A blog writer was meant to use their outlet to vent or praise or rant and rave. If others found the same passion in the blog they read of said writer the likes, views and kudos would follow.

The false sense of celebrity offered by these social media outlets is transparent and  fabricated and ego driven.

This induces delusional thinking. Realistically most that follow these bloggers neve actually read or truly follow the content that the blogger puts out.

Meanwhile the blogger that has content that is truly from the heart of the writer perhaps gets passed up.

Then the overflowing toilet full of mindless superficial garbage that clutters the internet sadly becomes the trend.  

So all things considered the term blogger can be kept by the types that have overtaken the idea and ruined it .

The true passionate blogger can be referred to as what they truly are which can be describe as an artist.

With a genuine passion for what they are blogging about, and all the factors that make a good blog due to the writer's heart he or she puts into it, a blogger can be a word artist.

For the ones that do not write with that kind of passion, not  doing justice to topic and original premise of what blogging was originally all about makes it feel like a lost artform.

Passion isn't taught. It's inside us all and perhaps the argument can be made that some just have not discovered their passion yet.

Most likely someone has a blog discussing it.

With such a diverse and multicultural campus it is not unusual to walk around and hear many different languages spoken.

There is a foreign language you won't hear.

Juan Pablo de Bonet is attributed as the creator of sign language in the year 1620.

He is responsible for writing a book containing the first documented manual alphabet system in signing.

Those who lived on Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts invented Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language (M.V.S.L.) based off of Bonet’s system, in the 1700s.

It was a alphabet system created and those of that island were known to have hereditary deafness which was very common in this area during this time period.

Bonet and M.V.S.L. influenced others such as the hearing impaired that came soon after the beginning of the 17th century.

Abbe Charles Michel de L'epee is the one responsible for the first school specifically for the hearing impaired in 1771.

The first ever school for the deaf in the United States was established in 1817.

Laurent Clerc and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet were both take credit for the invention of American Sign Language (ASL).

Sign language should simply be known as a foreign language. It is centuries old and has a lot of history .

It is no secret that the human race was not English speaking since the dawn of man.

Communication came in so many different forms and each one took a little bit from all other forms to develop. Sign language was no different.

Without civilized verbal language, sign language could have very well been the first form of language used by the human species to communicate.

It’s certainly is more believable than suggesting they used grunts and moans to communicate as a neanderthal man is portrayed in t.v. and film.

Sign language has developed and evolved over time, and perhaps was the very foundation and the backbone for all languages and communication people use today.

So to not acknowledge signing as a foreign language is nothing more than a thinking impairment.

Considerate to disabled

Businesses, public places and institutions have regulations they must follow pertaining to catering to people with disabilities.

While meeting the minimum requirements some places will go above and beyond the call to be more accessible and understanding to those with special needs.

ARC campus does a great job accommodating students with disabilities both physical and mental.

“I have yet to encounter any issues or trouble accessing any classrooms or buildings and I am very grateful that I am able to attend ARC without any limitations.” said ARC student Leroy Richards, a student with a paraplegic disability majoring in psychology .

The wheelchair friendly classrooms and buildings having easy to access automatic doors and elevators it can be said it's very access friendly to the physically disabled.

So that does not mean that physical disabilities are the only limits needing special assistance in some areas.

Those with mental or learning disabilities also require some things to meet their need for assistance in some areas.

Matt Tindell who is a los Rios  freshman  with down syndrome said, “ i came to hear and speak with a counselor and i was given  help with finding the right classes and to learn the right things for my goal of study”

A Lot of preparing and care goes into thinking of what can be done to make a school the best possible for the best experience.

It is a breath of fresh air that American RIver College much like their football team never seems to drop the ball.

ARC is a campus easily comparable to that of a 4-year university .  There is no doubt things can easily be overlooked at times,

However there is no doubt that a campus with such a diversity of students has not forgotten those with special needs.

From the easily accessed cafeteria and library to the bathrooms and multi-floor buildings the campus can be thought of as a standard setter for ensuring whether it be a physical disability or any other special need .

ARC didn't miss an opportunity to see to it that everyone feels right at home.

So much like the leaders of the future surely to come out of ARC . It does seem like ARC could be a standard setter on being a place that caters to all equals equally !

Kick it spots on campus

ARC campus is so big it could easily be mistaken for a four-year university. There are many areas that students have adopted as their favorite spots for studying, group gatherings or just a little alone time with someone special.

At an open field near the library a group of live action role players (LARP’ers) doing some training.

Kyle Joyce, a member of ARC’s Medieval Club, said they had picked one of the campus’s best spots to play.

“It gives us a good opportunity to do training for those new to our group or desire or time to hone their ability,” Joyce said.

“This area gives us a lot of space to practice but we do go other places as well to do our full armor battles; as you see we're just using the basics here for the training.”

Sitting on a little grassy area near the technology building a couple was just sitting together just enjoying lunch .

Adrian Dejesus,  a political science major, says she enjoys the quiet moments she spends with her new boyfriend between classes.

“It's just a place we sat at one day when we first started hanging out and now it's a normal routine thing.” Dejesus said.

“We get to talk and be alone and usually get very few disturbances.

“We only been dating for a few weeks so it's all still new but if things develop over time I'm sure we would talk about our little spot when we're old,” she said.

Whether it be a courtship in its early stages or a club practicing their craft there is space available to find your own favorite hangout spot on campus.
